Drury Lane - Covent Garden - heart of theatreland

Unique London Rental

Spacious one-bedroom apartment with one and a half baths, separate kitchen, small office, and private garden patio on historic and quiet Drury Lane in Covent Garden- also known as TheatreLand.  This is a lovely, pleasant, comfortable garden apartment furnished in an inviting, traditional style.

The flat is located on the lower ground floor of a 1989 red-brick building of high quality and attractive, older design.

There is an elevator (lift) or you may walk down to the apartment where you enter a large dining and living room (30’ by 20’) with polished wood floors and oriental rugs.  A formal dining table with leaf can seat up to eight.

French doors and windows open onto a private terrace patio which provides good light and part of the year direct sunlight into both living room and bedroom.  The patio is a pleasant spot for breakfast or lunch with attractive greenery, table and chairs.  A good-sized bedroom (16’ X 14’) looks out onto the patio.  There are individually controlled radiators in both bedroom and living room, hallway and bathroom, and the flat is well insulated (with double glass panes).

There is one full bathroom including shower, tub, sink, commode, bidet, and towel warmer; the second bathroom has a sink and commode.  The kitchen (17’ X 8’) is a separate room with all electric appliances including refrigerator, freezer, cooktop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, washer-dryer, as well as bar stools and counter for informal snacks.  Plus of course china, glassware, flatware, pots and pans--and a cozy and teapot.

There is also a small, separate room with complete home office: Dell computer, color printer, FAX, phone and answering machine.

The living (reception) room has a 28\\\" screen TV, VCR, DVD, and CD with tape player and radio.  The flat is large enough to require three phones, one of which is portable.

The bedroom has a firm queen-size bed, antique mahogany bureau, and four oriental rugs.  There is also a hair dryer, iron and ironing board.

A stylish, comfortable Laura Ashley sofa-bed is in the living room, but the apartment is rented ONLY to one or two adults--and only to non-smokers.  Overnight guests are not permitted except by advance arrangement.

The location is outstanding.  Many of London’s treasures are within a short walk: 1 block to the spectacular new Royal Opera House (do take the backstage tour), 5 minutes to the British Museum (see the newly restored Reading Room), 5-10 minutes to most West End Theatres, 10 minutes to the magnificent National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery (newly expanded), and the Courtauld; 15 minutes across Waterloo Bridge past views of The Eye (ferris wheel) to the South Bank Centre with the National Theatre (3 stages), Royal Festival Hall (3 venues), Old Vic and Young Vic.

The Covent Garden Underground (“tube”) is two blocks away, Piccadilly Line (direct from Heathrow).

Rent is payable in full at time of confirmation and includes weekly maid service (cleaning of flat and fresh linen) plus supplies of soap and paper goods.

N.B.: No reservation is binding (on either side) until we receive your check and you receive our confirmation.

Because of limited availability, any cancellation (no matter how valid a reason) results in full forfeiture of rent payment.  However, we often have requests for dates already booked and will try to fill all or part of the time, in which event we refund your rent payment less 10%.


We pay for basic phone service via British Telecom, but at the end of your rent we ask you to pay (at our cost) for your phone calls.  You may wish to use your personal credit or phone card for international calls.

About the computer: you may use our Virgin Broadband service to access the Internet and your own Internet Service Provider.  This is usually done by entering the URL, for example: www.yahoo.com and then going to your personal account.  As Internet connections are sometimes unreliable, you may wish to bring your own laptop, as our property manager cannot provide computer advice or services.  We also have WiFi.

Our personally known check in agent will greet you when you arrive, and give you keys.  Check in management will be your primary contact for any flat problems (excluding the computer) and is available by e-mail or phone during your tenancy. You will be met again at the end of stay when you return keys.

This is not an ordinary rental.  It is our second home and is rented out only when we are not in residence.  This is our 10th year of doing so.

We regard you as our tenant and hope you will find it a delightful way to stay in London.  We ask that you look after the apartment as if you were the guest in someone’s private home--which is what you will be.
